Electronic Cigarettes Are Keeping Employees Productive

Smart business managers never turn their back on ways to make their employees more productive. Companies have forever been plagued by the amount of time lost due to employees being involved in things other than working. Chatting at the water fountain, long restroom breaks, personal phone calls, texting, and now playing around on the Internet.

Today’s CEOs have to balance the art of keeping the employees’ production high, while making certain their people are happy at work. It is a well known fact that it’s extremely costly to hire and train key people.

Smoking in the workplace has become a “no-no”, mandated by government smoking bans and company policies. With that, the employees who can’t quit or just have no desire to, find themselves in a rather difficult position while at work. Chain smokers are sentenced to sure death by being shackled to their desk for several hours between breaks. Their mind may become split on their work and on the clock that appears frozen in place at each glance. When a break finally rolls around, they may have to leave the area and travel a long distance to the designated smoking area. Hours can be wasted each day to this ritual. Non-smoking employees even complain that some smokers appear to get more than the usual break time allotted.

Enter the electronic cigarette, or e cigarette, a revolutionary alternative to the traditional tobacco cigarette. These products contain no tobacco, are non-combustible and eliminate virtually all the risks of smoking – including second hand smoke. They look, taste and feel like a cigarette but expel an odorless water vapor that looks like smoke. The employee can take a puff from an e cigarette, put it in their pocket and keep on making the company money.

According to a study by Dr. Michael T. Halpern, Richard Shikiar, Anne M. Rentz and Zeba M. Khan in 2001, “workplace productivity is increased and absenteeism is decreased among former smokers as compared to current smokers. Productivity among former smokers increases over time toward values seen among never smokers.” Once an employee becomes a former tobacco cigarette smoker, they leave behind the thousands of toxic chemicals that had a negative effect on their health
