Nicotine Inhaler Device Similar To E-Cigs Approved In UK

For chronic smokers who want to quit the habit, there is a new inhaler called Voke and has been recently approved in UK.

The nicotine inhaler is a device which looks much similar to an e-cigarette and its purpose is also the same- to help to kick off the habit.

Voke is a nicotine inhaler device which has been created by Nicoventures, which is a subsidiary of British American Tobacco and would be soon available as a smoking cessation aid.

Voke is the first product from a tobacco company which has been approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (MHRA). There are similar type of products which include nicotine inhalers, patches, sprays and gums. The granting of license could pave for the development of e-cigarettes.

Voke is not an e-cigarette and it is also not electronically powered and also does not need batteries. The product does not produce any ash or smoke when it is used. The users will get only to inhale nicotine and not the other harmful ingredients. E-Cigarettes are targeted at the younger generation but the nicotine inhaler will be promoted for smokers who are looking to quit the habit.

Deborah Arnott, chief executive of health charity Ash, said to BBC News “This new alternative to smoking will allow smokers to choose a product which meets the high standards of medicines regulation and could be provided on prescription to help them stop smoking.”

Kevin Bridgman, the chief medical officer at Nicoventures, added according to Reuters, “The fact that it has been licensed by the medicines regulator provides the assurances around quality and safety that many smokers are seeking. I’m fairly confident that most e-cigarettes contain fewer toxins than conventional cigarettes, but the trouble is that without standards and without someone overseeing things then consumers can’t be sure.”

Voke is scheduled to enter the market within the next few months.
