Why Won’t Des Moines Let Man Open Vape Shop?

How are convicted felons supposed to rehabilitate and reform themselves if society constantly throws roadblocks in their way?

Kelley Page was last arrested six years ago, and that charge was dismissed. But the Des Moines City Council is denying him a license for his electronic cigarette store because of his prior convictions.

Sgt. Jason Halifax, when asked why the police department recommended denying Page’s permit, answered, “It’s because of the pattern.” Page’s pattern for the last six years is that of a law-abiding citizen.

The City Council should allow Page to continue on his path of reform by reconsidering and granting him a permit so he can have a livelihood.
